God, Thank you that you always keep your promises. Help us to learn that sometimes we have to wait on your promises.

Amen.

…the knowledge of God’s mystery…is Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

Son of Laughter

THE STORY: The Birth of Isaac

“Son of Laughter” found on page 56 of the Jesus Storybook Bible

THE DISCUSSION

What is a promise?  What promise did God give Abraham?

What’s the longest time you have ever waited for something special?  How long did Abraham and Sarah wait for a baby?

When Sarah heard about God’s plan for her to have a baby, what did she do?

What does it mean to have faith in God?

Sometimes, when we use only our earthly, human wisdom, we can’t understand how big and limitless God’s plan is for us, his people.  Think about how Sarah laughed when she heard that she was going to have a baby at 90 years old!  It didn’t seem possible!  Talk about ways you can use patience and faith to be more wise to God’s plans for your life.

THE ACTIVITY

Draw a family portrait and name aloud your family blessings.

THE BLESSING

Take turns saying to each family member, while making the sign of the cross on the other's forehead: May God give you patience for the wisdom of His timing.

MEMORY VERSE

…the LORD did… what he had promised.  Genesis 21:1
