A Celtic Evening to Feature Folk Music and Dance March 8
Looking toward St. Patrick’s Day, A Celtic Evening will be held on Thur., Mar. 8, at 6:30 p.m., featuring the Celtic Ensemble, Rising Road, with Jil Chambless, Kevin Nicholson and Dan Vogt. Also performing will be the Westwood Irish Dance group from Westwood Baptist Church in Birmingham. The event will be held in Randall Hall at Christ Episcopal Church in Tuscaloosa.
Rising Road features musician Jil Chambless on vocals, flute and whistle. Originally a featured singer with Henri’s Notions, Jil now plays with various Celtic groups around the country and abroad and has recorded a number of CDs. The other members of the band include Kevin Nicholson on fiddle and Dan Vogt on guitar and vocals, both of whom play in a number of bands around the region.
The Westwood Irish Dance group in Birmingham is made up of young people who study under a special instructor from the Drake School of Irish Dance located in Auburn and Birmingham. It is a mission of the church that the dancers perform for community events throughout the year. Many of the students of this school have qualified for national and world championship competitions.
A Celtic Evening is another in the Concerts & Culture at Christ Church series offered to the Tuscaloosa community and is free and open to the public.
