Christmas Outreach Projects are Under Way!
Stockings for the Salvation Army, Christmas gifts for foster children, and Lazarus Ministry Christmas donation forms will all be in the atrium beginning Nov. 5th! Learn about each outreach project below.
Stuff a Stocking for the Salvation Army
Christ Episcopal Church (CEC) is partnering with the Salvation Army to provide Christmas stockings for Center of Hope residents. The Tuscaloosa Center of Hope provides shelter, nutritious meals, counseling, job placement assistance, educational opportunities, health and substance abuse referrals and vocational rehabilitation for men, women and families. We are excited for the opportunity to surprise local families staying at the center with gifts on Christmas morning.
Our goal is to provide stockings for 42 men, 20 women, 10 stockings for children ages 3 to 12 years old, and 3 stockings for teenagers. by November 26th. We hope you will consider helping us meet this goal. We would like each bag to contain items that are needed and at least one fun gift. Participation is easy! Grab a gallon size zip lock bag and fill with the below items:
Suggested items for filling a bag include the following: socks, candy, shampoo, deodorant, Toothbrush/toothpaste, dental floss, chapstick, beef jerky, travel size tissue, small domino set, soft granola bars, combs, gloves, pretty small notebooks, playing cards for the men, fingernail polish for women, small toys for the little ones, and iTunes gift cards for teens.
Please return your bags to the church by November 26th.
Tuscaloosa DHR Christmas Wishlists
CEC has the opportunity to sponsor the Christmas Wish Lists of 30 children and teens in the care of Tuscaloosa DHR this year. If you would like to purchase Christmas gifts for a child, please sign up in the atrium, below a child’s name, and take the envelope containing their wish list. The maximum for all gifts is $150.
All gifts must be returned to the church by Sunday, December 3rd.
Lazarus Ministry Donations and Toy Sale
There are many ways to support the Lazarus Ministry this Christmas! First, you can make a holiday donation to the Lazarus Ministry in memory or honor of a loved one. Donation forms are available in the atrium.
Another way to assist the ministry is by helping with our annual toy sale on Friday, December 1st. During the sale, families in need of financial assistance shop toys just in time for Christmas. We are currently accepting gently used toys in room 221, and would appreciate your donations! We also need volunteers to help with the sale from 5:00-7:00 PM. The sign up sheet is in the atrium.
What is the Lazarus Ministry? Each week Christ Episcopal Church opens its doors to those in need of financial assistance with utility bills. Listening, prayer and action combine in this important ministry.
